In addition, a number of events held in the Town of Fort Myers Beach or downtown Fort Myers can provide fun things to do and see, and you can easily get to Sanibel & Captiva, Bonita Springs, Estero, Naples and the surrounding area for some of the other suggestions below.
Visit Kitchy, Old Florida Attractions:
Here’s a few to start of with: Babcock Wilderness Tour, Shell Factory, Sun Harvest Citrus, Wooten’s Alligator Farm
Downtown is a happening place during Art Walk or Music Walk nights. Check the events page for more details.
See Some Animals:
Mote – not the kind that you’d see around a castle, but full of water. I don’t have any clue what Mote stands for, but I have heard it as a recommendation for people who like aquariums and seeing sea animals.
Naples Zoo – probably not like the San Diego Zoo, but could still be fun. When I go check it out myself, I’ll post details and photos.
Go See Museums & History:
Edison & Ford Winter Estates or the Ringling Family Residence
There’s a number of beach shops along Estero Blvd in Fort Myers Beach, and more near Times Square. If you feel like heading off island, Coconut Point Shopping Center (yes, that crappy website is really for the nice outdoor mall – don’t be alarmed) is a new, large, outdoor shopping area about 30 minutes away. You can also visit Miromar or Tanger Outlets malls. I personally like Miromar better as it is larger and has more selection, but Tanger is only about 10 minutes away on the way to Sanibel Island. Naples has a shopping center on the water, called Tin City, and the Flamingo Island Flea Market in Bonita Springs is interesting also.
Visit Key West:
If you’ve come a long way to see Florida, it really makes sense to head to Key West before going home. You can take the Key West Express Ferry down for a day trip, although I wouldn’t suggest it because you don’t have that much time actually in Key West. Book a room for a night, and you can return on the ferry the next day.
